Jacob Sterling

Senior Director, Head of Sustainability Advisory, Preferred by Nature

Jacob Sterling is Senior Director, Head of Tailored Services in the non-profit organization Preferred by Nature.

The organization is working in 100+ countries, helping businesses smallholders and other stakeholders with solutions that benefits nature, people and the climate. He is leading a global team that is responsible for providing advisory to companies on how to manage the sustainability risks of traded commodities such as timber, soy, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and rubber.

He has 20+ years of experience in the environmental sector. Prior to joining Preferred by Nature in 2023, he spearheaded the decarbonization of A.P. Moller-Maersk’s shipping business as well as technical innovation in the company. He also served as employee elected member to the Board of Directors of A.P. Moller-Maersk for four years.

Jacob has also had leading roles in the environmental NGOs, WWF and Forests of the World, where he developed and managed conservation programmes and initiatives. He holds a master’s degree in biology focusing on biodiversity conservation in tropical ecosystems.
