Dr Merrin Pearse
Sustainability Advisor, The Purpose Business & Co-founder and Director, Coordinate4u
Dr Merrin Pearse is recognised and highly regarded as the go-to-expert for resource management and the circular economy in Asia. He is a regular speaker and moderator at sustainability-focused events in this region.
He has dedicated more than 25 years of his life working with NGOs, governments and companies big and small to advise and develop processes on waste management as well as designing and delivering experiential leadership learning programmes on sustainability.
Between 2020-2021 alone, Merrin was instrumental in the development of close to 20 sustainability strategy frameworks for industries spanning hospitality, transportation, supply chain, and finance.
Merrin has been an advisor with The Purpose Business (The Purpose Business) since 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Surveying (BSurv) from Otago University and PhD in Geomatics from the University of New South Wales.
Prior to moving back to New Zealand at the end of 2021, Merrin lived in Hong Kong for 15 years. Over that time, he held roles such as the Honorary Secretary of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Chairman of Living Islands Movement, Acting CEO of Friends of the Earth (HK) and organiser of Hong Kong Green Drinks.
Now based in New Zealand he continues to be a member of Drink Without Waste (a broad coalition of stakeholders focused on reducing waste from beverage consumption) and an Executive Committee Member of Masarang HK Society.
