Marianne Harper Gow

Director, Governance and Sustainability, Baillie Gifford

Marianne joined Baillie Gifford in 2004. Since then she has been integral to Baillie Gifford’s growing ESG resource and integration across the investment, operations and client departments.

Her role has evolved along with the ESG function, extending over many areas including research and analysis, company engagement, voting and client reporting. Marianne’s current responsibilities involve engaging with institutional investors, regulators and industry bodies across the globe on the complex range of topics that fall under the ESG theme, with ESG data and regulation as recent additions to the conversation.

Before joining Baillie Gifford, Marianne did environmental and geological survey work in the oil and gas sector. She holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Science from the University of Aberdeen, and MBA from the University of Edinburgh. She is also a member of the Social Investment Scotland – Ventures Investment Committee, ICAS (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) Ethics Board, and co-chairs the CII (Council for Institutional Investors) International Governance Committee.
